Dinner @ Oriole

havent met Cece for weeks and wanted to make the best use of this meet up. so instead of our usual movie then TCC sesh, we decided to have dinner to catch up. i read on Brad's blog that he went to Oriole recently and had good reviews about the place. so i thought, ok better remember to make reservation and then meet Cece there.

the no frills menu

was heng, for the fact that i made reservations coz it was damn full and noisy by the time i reached the place. i guess it's the overall ambience of the place, it's cosy and warm. instant relaxation mode! i think the lights of the restaurant was quite pretty. brighten by single light bulbs all over the place, the designs of these lights are really simple and i love them all! very pretty.

picture was taken in error but i like the effect

the service staff are really very friendly and all so ready to help. product knowledge is wonderful and they make sure everything is being taken care of. Cece had the fish and chips, i was contemplating between the beef cheek tagliatelle and the seafood blue cheese risotto. as i was told the risotto is a seasonal item and the seafood is being flown all the way from Japan, i decided i'd just have that. we also ordered a starter of NZ mussels cooked in white wine with garlic.

couldnt resist..

we chatted as we waited for the food. pretty loudly i supposed coz everyone else was talking at the top of their voice too. it was quite noisy but i guess everyone's very comfortable with the settings and the crowd so that's why.
Our yummy NZ mussels

NZ mussels arrived first and i took a first bite. the mussels were juicy, succulent and taken out from the pot just at the right moment. it's not rubbery, nor too tough. it's soft and one bite and i tasted the essence of the sea all flowing sweetly in my mouth, i think i can finish 1 plate of mussels. yup, it's that good and the best i have had so far! it cones with warm bread. baguette style but does not have the hard crust. in fact, the crust was so crispy like eating potato chips crispy and the bread is super duper soft! when dipped in the sauce.. phewz, amazing! Just that the chef should probably reduce the amount of salt in the dish. nevertheless, it's a MUST TRY!!!

not long after our mains arrived. we waited a while before we consumed our mains coz just couldnt stop eating the mussels. my only complain is that our mains should have been served after we finished our mussels. coz it started to turn cold.

the seafood risotto

the seafood risotto is not as wet as the one i had in porta. the flavour of the blue cheese didnt overwhelm, in fact, the flavour slowly disperses in my mouth and i could taste just a nice tinge of it. the scallops were pretty big, but because they were grilled and also i took a longer time to eat it, it was not as juicy i expected. as for the prawns, no complains. definitely fresh and crunchy. however, i still like the mushroom risotto from porta, i couldn't forget that!!

Cece's fish and chips were definitely better than the one from double bay. primarily the batter is very light and very crispy as well as flavourful. the chips which came along with the fish was seasoned in some crushed ginger or something.. it's good. reminds me of my ah ma's fried ginger! damn nice.

the very pretty white sangria

for drinks we ordered the sangria. it was quite strong and have a good serving of chopped fruits like green apples, lemon, orange and strawberry. there were quite a bit of mint leaves inside as well. over all the drink was very refreshing except the fruits were too sour. we skipped dessert as we wanted to have the ice cream from Gustimmo.

i will definitely visit Oriole again to try every other dish in their menu also the price was pretty reasonable!

D & D @ 1 Caramel

today's the return visit to 1 Caramel in less than a week. went with Cece for a major catch up sesh which was partially overdue. we stayed there for 5 hours. from 7 ish to 12 ish.

customised cupcakes selling @ $6 per cupcake and min order is 12. very pretty!

thought i saw a family having pizza the other time i was there and told Cece that yes, they served mains. however, after studying the menu for like countless times, we didn't see any pizzas! in the end, we resorted to asking the waitress if they served other savories. surprisingly, they did. 3 kinds of pizzas: Margarita, hawaiian and parma ham. so we opted for the parma and mushroom soup. we didn't order cakes at the point in time coz we were going to revisit the display fridge after the mains.

the mushroom soup arrived first and had two slices of crispy toasts. i like the just nice richness of the soup. it's thick with generous bits mushrooms blended to just the correct size adding a good texture to the soup. unfortunately, the were bits of leaves (i think dried basil leaves? Dunno) in the soup and it sort of marred the last few moments of drinking the soup. overall, i'd order it again coz it's savoury enough and not overly creamy!

the pizza arrived thereafter and it's quite big. divided to 8 slices, it can feed at least 3 people or even 4. it's definitely not as good as the one i had in Skinny P coz the toppings weren't that generous and the dough was not exactly fantastic. it could also be because we had too much. we didn't finish the pizza. 2 slices were left behind though we finished the rocket leaves and the parma ham.

if you don't want to visit the fridge, which is something you should do, they also have a menu. i counted, there were a total of 27 different kinds of cakes!

we ordered tea too. mine's the fruit mountain. not too strong, it's quite light but not as light as Cece's Geisha something. the butter cookie is yummy too!

by then we were pretty full, took a walk to the gigantic see through fridge to finalise the cake of our choice for the night. initially we were pretty optimistic, that we will be able to eat 4 cakes in total, but we ordered 2 different cakes first, just in case.

cece ordered the Chocolate Praline Cake. As described in the cakes' menu, quote: '1 Caramel's Cocoa signature with varying layers of chocolate mousse and hazelnut praline feuilletine.' when i ate the cake, i thought it was sweet. cece didnt think it was. i guess we have different levels of sugar tolerance. to me the cake tasted like kit kat again. i very much prefer the CBL coz of the balance of tart and sweet.

i ordered the Nid d'abeilles. Don't ask me how to pronounce it, but quote again: 'Layers of honey chiboust cream and strawberry jelly sandwiched with crispy almond dacquoise.' hmm yet another cheem description. i thought the cake was quite sweet as well. Though the strawberry jelly is sour, it's still sweet. overall, sweet. i didnt taste much honey but the cake was really soft and the chiboust cream was light a fluffy. almond dacquoise is also sweet. hmm.. everything sweet.

i think we had a bit too much sugar that we went on a sugar high and was hyper for a short 30 mins and started to seh for the next 30 mins. we got back to our original state by drinking lots of water that coupled with lots of laughter as we chit chatted. it was so therapeutic and i missed her company. it's always nice to chat with her when there are things i find it hard to understand and needed someone who bothers to analyse and unafraid to tell me her thoughts in a evaluative manner. she didn't need to provide solutions, it's just great to hear what she has to say.

food though not as amazing as the first experience, company was great and the place was so nice to nuah!! i didnt feel like moving from the long bench with that huge fluffy brown pillow. felt damn shiok! it was a wonderful friday night and i look forward to meeting up with my dear friend soon :)!

movie friday 260609

just booked tickets for TRANSFORMERS: Revenge of the Fallen!!

texted Cece yesterday and she mentioned that a colleague told her all the downtown cines are fully booked!! relentless, i went to check. True enough, those session beyond 6 ish are all fully booked. so we decided to watch the 6.45pm show @ The Cathay. Not the GRAND cathay though coz it's booked entirely.

can't wait for friday!! Hmm, hope the trailers don't show too much and makes the show boring..

Friday

the day has yet to arrive but i AM looking forward to it.

hmm.. am on a partial SMS marathon with Cece and we are planning what to do on Fri. After all, it's the first Friday after her exams, it's one friday where i'd get to watch my movie, have a good dinner and catch up with a uber wonderful gal pal i missed for the last couple of weeks.

the ongoing SMSes were about what to do on Fri and we kinda think we can both leave earlier for that day. i just blogged that i wanna watch DANCE SUBARU and she mentioned about it! haha i think today we are in a telepathetic mode. Somehow, everything so qiao. She smsed me whilst i was in the midst of sending her my sms.

so coincidental, we decided to take this opportunity to buy 4D for tmr. Not revealing the numbers as secrets are not meant to be revealed. just hope it will bring us closer to our hokkaido trip.

so we are deciding this. Catch movie, go Crystal Jade korean rest for dinner and then head for another movie if there's anything to watch. the plan stays as this for the time being. we'll see what changes occurs as the day draws nearer.

just hoping that A380 will not make an appearance that day :p. i have so many things to tell her face to face. SMS marathon can't possibily communicate all these!

looking forward to Friday!

home early on a Friday night

i'm home early today for the following reasons:

1) Cece couldn't meet up coz she got lots of stuff to clear

2) I couldn't meet Cece coz last night my swelling bottom right wisdom tooth gum was hurting more so i told her i was going to visit the dentist

3) dentist i didn't go, didnt even call to make appointment. the swell went down and it feels less painful, i was lucky.

4) i was extremely tired. for the first time this year, i yawned more than 30 times today. i hardly yawn so much in a day regardless at work or home.

either i was lacking oxygen, or it must be all thanks to the tiramisu last night.

yesterday, i was having happy hours drinks @ paulanars with a group of gal pals i haven't met for the longest time. thereafter, i left them and headed to mustafa but first for dinner.

we were around Jalan Besar. neither of us knew where it was located nor the name. he only told me it served pasta.. since i don't really know the area well, i just followed him. so we walked (me in my uber high heels for the day), along uneven pavements, siaming potted plants, tables and cars. it probably didnt seem the case, but i definitely found it a challenge and i was super worried that i'd sprain my feet. haha! Thankfully, the walk went ok and i was pleasantly surprised when i saw the signage!

ad hoc, unknown and after a long walk on a hot thursday night, we reached PASTA INC which was on my TTT (things to try) list! seriously unexpected but was absolutely delighted, i think i squealed slightly! never exactly thought that i'd be there actually.

the entrance were glass doors darken with a layer of blackish/brownish film and we couldn't exactly see inside. a guy opened the door and welcomed us in. the place was small there was a big group of about 10 or 12 gals celebrating someone's birthday. two couples and 2 empty tables - one for 2 and the other for a group of 4. so we took the table for two and were promptly given the menu.

it was actually quite dark coz there was minimal light erm from a rather large chanderlier which i like (coz it was black) and the rest came from flickering tea lights. i can't say it's cosy because the ceiling's pretty high. there was some sort of emptiness in fact maybe coz they arranged a big table for the big group. anyhow, the ambience was quite nice and soothing, very comfortable. i love the chairs too! provided good support, upholstered with soft leather (if i didnt remember wrongly) and very bouncy too!

i had to go to the ladies coz had a bit too much beer. Was told the restrooms were in the other arched door way covered by red velvet curtains. drawing the curtains presented me with another dining area which i very much prefer. about 1/3 the size of the main dining area, it managed to squeeze in quite a few seats! this is what i call cosy! walking pass the area i went down a few cement steps and reached the kitchen area. Man.. was it hot and stuffy! directly opposite the kitchen was two long cemented tables and seats. damn cool i like, but i think it's for staff. from there, it was only a short walk to the restroom.

i love the restroom! hah! old as it is - think aluminum doors with hooks to lock the door but they are painted a classy matte black, shiny white tiles and partial aluminum flooring. what is not old about the loo is that there is a very happening shower head (for shower?) and very ample space! NICE!!

what appealed to me was also the wash basin. instead of normal taps, the owner replaced it with a uber huge shower head! it's bigger than my head for sure. so fun washing my hands underneath it! hehe :) there were money plants (i think) to add some natural greenery to the area. silly as it sounds, i was so excited i asked him to check out the restroom too :p! haha

we ordered the Nero di seppia - Squid ink spaghetti and i think seafood carbonara linguini. the SIS was delish, i leave you to check out the comments of this dish at the Hungry Go Where website.

i love the texture of the spaghetti, it's the best i have ever eaten so far. springy, has the just right softness, got a good feel when chewed and perfectly smooth when swallowed. i can eat two plates of this or any dish with this amazing spaghetti. didn't try the carbonara coz didn't think it will be fair to eat anything else after eating the SIS. i am only intrigued by what's the reddish/orangey oil spots though. could it be that they blended sun dried tomatoes soaked in olive oil and thus the slight sourish taste to the sauce? next time i will ask.

we went for tiramisu for dessert. lucky us, it was freshly made that day! Keith (if i am not wrong) told us that they keep the tiramisu max for 3 days and if not sold they will throw away and make new ones.

my conclusion? i like but not heart coz no alcohol... but the strong coffee more than made up for the zlich liquor. so strong until i cannot sleep last night and thus causing me to yawn and yawn like siao today. the fresh cream on top was light, fluffy totally melt in my mouth. mmmm.. but the funny thing about the tiramisu was the top layer of sponge cake quite difficult to 'break' apart leh. i don't mean it's hard, it's just doesn't 'break' away willingly from the main piece. the middle layer just keeps dripping coffee!! overall ok but not fantastic for me.

service was excellent, friendly, very knowledgeable and also very prompt. i don't think they are waiters waiters kind. must be high level management mingling with the customers asking for their opinions about the dishes. there were no airs and what impressed me when i asked them about their 3 selected dishes which are part of this 100 signature dish award, Keith (if i am not wrong, yet again) introduced us to two of the 3 dishes (coz the 3rd dish was SIS).

Nevermind that i didnt remember what he was talking about other than 1 being a veal dish in some herby sauce, the other being lamb shanks cooked dunno how, i was impressed by the way he made sure he made eye contact with both of us when explaining. Usually you don't get this from a normal waiter. so i think he must be one of the bosses if not at least management level person. the other two who served us were equally impressive. should the restaurant really takes off to newer heights one day, i hope they inculcate such a culture and service level to their staff. Customers will definitely appreciate it!

i definitely will go back again and bring my camera then. hmm.. i just wonder when will be the next time be though...

meoW and be partially Whisk-ed

initial movie plan changed to dinner. some requirements for last night's dinner.

1) would be good if the location is in town
2) non japanese
3) somewhere to relax and chill

resourceful as i am, this kinda stubbed me. hmm.. where shall we go to have din and meet the above requirements? so i searched HGW, my foodie wikipedia equivalent. seems like no where fits the criteria. in the midst of training session and then heading for a short break to buy sandwich from 'Simply Sandwich' and a miserable scoop of earl grey with fig ice cream from cedele (which incidentally was darn good but F ex!) i remembered Whisk.

having head down to Wisma on 2 suay attempts of trying to get my phone repaired, i remembered this place and i suggested to Cece. Read reviews and it seemed like a decent place. Tried to make rsvp via phone and was declined. Response given by the person was that they had many group reservations and thus rsvp was closed for the day but walk ins are still all right. i further tried my luck citing that it's only for 2 persons. the person on the other line asked what time i was looking at and i told him about 6 to 7pm, he mentioned that it should be ok.

so when i reached there at about 710pm, the place was pretty empty save for one long table being filled. i was given a table beside where the condiments were stocked, wasn't very impressed. at first i thought the tables inside were filled, subsequently as i see more 2 persons patrons being ushered in, i was quite so not happy. anyway, the service was pretty good. the waiters and waiteress were ready to serve me despite me having to say we were not ready to order countless times. they were always smiling.

the menu which gave me a 'headache' in deciding what to order..

i had a hard time deciding. i wanted to have the 'mystery' soup of the day which was clam chowder but looking at the photo, the clams looked rather pathetic. i wanted to try the mikiko's pasta which came with beef, poached egg and some sauce, but i also wanted to have the chicken and corn with poached egg soup. then i wanted to have the rosie's chicken and even thought about the pork ribs. i had such a hard time deciding coz i didn't want to have repeat ingredients in my meal!

chicken & corn soup with poached egg.. and the two uber crunchy toasts which i really liked!

Ultimately, i decided to have izio's aglio alio or something. it was actually prawn pasta and the chicken and corn soup. Cece ordered Timmy's fish and chips.

soup arrived pretty soon and came with two uber crispy toasts! Really excellent! I love the crunch and went really well with the soup. the chicken slices were generous as well as the corn. i couldn't decide how i should eat the poached egg, though finally, it helped that after too much scooping of the soup, the egg 'broke' and the yolk oozed out. turned out, that was how it should be eaten. the egg yolk enhanced the taste of the soup and it felt so comforting. hee hee. best of all, the poached egg was perfectly done. no harden parts on the yolk and the egg white was slippery smooth. it was excellent!

unfortunately, before i could finish my soup, they served Izio shortly after. Poor Izio was left to cool but fortunately, i could still see steam when i mixed in the cheese and chilli flakes. the spaghetti was normal, but the sauce was wonderful. it tasted like i was eating vongole spaghetti except that i can see prawns instead of clams. hehe. sadly, the prawns werent up to standard. i believe they used frozen prawns coz i could taste that it is glassy (dunno if you know what i mean), overly crunchy and bland compared to fresh prawns. i wonder if that's the reason the price was only $13.90 for a prawn spaghetti coz market price i think is about $16.90 if i am not wrong?

here's izio.. if the chilli were padi, it'd prolly be better. but i love the fresh garlic slices!

Cece's f&c took us by surprised. the serving was big in that there were loads of fries and 5 slices of battered fish. the fish was pretty soft and fresh. the batter was just right. it's not too thick nor oily but very crispy and savoury. we could have actually shared the dish.

and here's the huge serving of F&C!!!

we skipped dessert coz i wanted to head to isetan supermart to get lazy gourmet coq au vin. we decided that net time we'd return and share the pork ribs as well as other stuff.

yep, we will return and hopefully get further whisked away!! :D

dinner with the girls

how long has it been? these days we hardly gather for dinner or drinks. no one jio people to come out to celebrate the coming of the weekend. so yesterday's small meeting between Jenny, Cece and me was precious. small as the group may be, we were looking back during the crazy uni days where we did the craziest things and had the funniest moments. what was served during dinner didnt matter, we sat in Double Bay for i think about 4 hours or more reminiscing the good old days.

it was nostalgic really. we haven't look back to those days for quite sometime. good food or not, we sure laughed like mad, catch up on the latest gossips and updates of one another's life. spending time like these are made difficult in that Jenn's away in Hong Kong, Cece and me busy with work though we try to come out every Friday when she's not having exams. JY and Ann occasionally when they have the time.

glad we met up and had perhaps a partial good meal? We laughed about our experiences with budget airlines and flights in general eg, cece and me doing the amazing race to catch our flight twice. think Vietnam and Bangkok. For me, the trip to taiwan was no different. we nearly missed our flight!! Jenn's episodes of non wellness when boarding the plane.. hee :D

i had a great time babes, hope you both too. next meet up, CNY celebrations @ SK Chalet?? Hmm.. Mdm Chang, if u read this entry, please respond when we can visit hor!!! :D

below the pics of the food we ate.

Jenn came back with bad tummy coz of the raw oyster she ate prior to coming back. so she ordered a cesear salad which i thought looked pretty tempting coz of the poached egg. alas, she didn't finish coz she didnt feel well still.

kurobuta pork belly

i liked the sweet sour apple raisin sauce with sundried tomatoes. it was zesty and very appetizing. the pork, hmm tasted like the normal roast pork we eat @ roast meat stalls in hawker centres. the skin was crispy, the meat tender, the fats was it.. hmm non existent or i was just fooling myself? hahah.. one thing for sure it's not that bad. oh another thing to mention is the dressing for the salad. i think they melted some scs butter into the dressing and it smells damn good and mix pretty well with the vege!

beer batter barramundi

when the F&C appeared, we were skeptical. reason being, the batter looked too dark. it took quite a while for the mains to arrive also. we had to ask the waiter what happened to our dishes. after asking, the mains arrived. i like my barramundi. it was moist and juicy. tender and flaky. it wasn't too tough when i ate it until i arrive to the end of one portion, the flesh was kinda tough and a little dry. the batter was light and broke into pieces easily when 'attacked' though i can't exactly taste the beer. in all, it was ok food. maybe coz i aint exactly the fish and chips person. Also served were 3 kind of sauces on the side for the customer to try, i like the one in the middle - vinegar. i skipped most of the tartar sauce and occasionally dipped the ketchup for the chips. the same side salad repeated itself in the F&C.

Lemon meringue pie

it was recommended by many people and so cece and i decided to try even though cece much prefer chocs related dessert. hee. first bite i thought the lemon was tad sour and smelt like the lemon cream in those kong guan biscuits. the meringue was soft and fluffy which was different from my initial idea of meringue. the ice cream was vanilla bean and i thought there wasn't much punch perhaps coz it was from haato as one blogger mentioned? i ate almost the whole pie coz it got really addictive. cece stopped at 1 quarter. not exactly super for me.

time to head to elsewhere in search of more yummy food.

supper club

the thing that intrigued me about Supper Club was the surprise menu. well, 4 course dinner at a price of $65++ i am curious what kind of food will be served to me. Surfing the web aroused my curiosity further. their interior looked awfully sleek with the white bedsheets and pillows and silver pillars. the pics of the loo as well as the bar looked impressive. plus the site mentioned that patrons will be treated to some kind of 'out of this world' performance. so dinner it was on a friday night to Supper Club.

i called to make reservations, though it wasn't exactly necessary when i found out later that not many people were in the club even when we sat till 10 ish, it was only half full sad to say. oh, but reservations did have it's privileges, coz i saw an advert in JUICE mag that if you quote 'JUICE' when making reservations you get to have complimentary moet champagne.
we were earlier. uber early in fact. had a tough time finding the entrance in that the arrow/s leading you to the entrance has no follow through. the fact that LOOF was just above didn't help as we thought we can go up to level 2 via the elevator. i think we spent a good 10 mins wondering and thinking where the club is.

when we finally found it, we were the earliest.
a cross dresser and a girl with huge dredgelock hair greeted us at the entrance and were prolly surprised that we were so early. the cross dresser in a pinkish, flowery, over the knee length dress and wearing boots brought us to the bar area. Walking up the hugmongous stairs proved to be a challenge for me with heels on. i quite like the area coz the windows/glass panels (it's floor to ceiling) were tinted red! can't exactly speak visual impact, but the colour showering the whole room was intense. i think it makes people wanna drink coz somehow you'd feel damn warm inside. Think 'The Running Man'!

drink we didnt and we headed out to civilisation eating fries @ Mac coz we were getting hungry.

by 7.50pm, the club wasn't even ready yet but they brought us in and there we were greeted by the ultra violet feel of white wash beds and pillows, floor and walls. why do i say ultra violet feel, well, it's not ultraviolet light they used. it's a combi of soothing colours which you can see in the pics. I shall not say much just that the beds were huge and absolutely comfy! the pillows were fluffy and yeah, it's not difficult to fall asleep which we nearly did and perhaps had some shut eye for a short while.
the food didnt arrive at 8pm though we were told that dinner starts that time. we sat till around 9 ish when our first course was served.

the entrance

at the lower level lies the kitchen and the bar counter

sliver reflective pillars make the place even more sleek

different scene mode

Appetiser for the night was:

Raw cream salmon steak with sundried Roma tomato and avocado, frisee salad, ginger toast and champagne vinaigrette.

appetizer under the lighting of the place

and now with flash

Frankly speaking, when you read the discription it looks like you are in for a treat. for me, i found the whole dish too complicated. i couldnt taste the salmon steak and i didnt like the raw cream. i think it's too sourish given the fact that i could taste lemon pulp in the cream. the frisee was so so, i thought it tasted like any salad vege. as for the ginger toast, hmm didn't taste ginger, but the champagne vinaigrette is a first time for me, i like that the champagne and the vinegar mixed nicely together. the most unforgettable food item in this dish i must say is the Roma tomato. it wasn't overloaded with olive oil and it was still chewy. it is savoury and to a certain extend hides a certain amount of sourness and sweetness. it's my favorite item in the whole dish and there were only two pieces sadly. though i must say the whole dish sure kicks up an appetite and made me wonder what's to be coming next.

2nd course - starter

Parsnip/onion soup with parmaham, oregano croutons and chopped parsley.

soup in a beer glass/mug

and you can see the ingredients clearly now

first taste of the soup, i couldn't really figure. maybe the taste is a tad too complicated or that i didn't know how parsnip tasted like, so it felt like i didn't know what i was drinking. what i knew was that i could taste curry to a certain extent. the lighting sure didn't help identifying what food i was eating. i could only see the colour of my food after i took pics with flash on. so i saw the misley slice of fried parmaham and the croutons. as i drank the soup, it got more and more spicy. somehow, it tasted like there were lots of black pepper in the soup as well. i was getting pretty hot and was ready for more. though still not very impressed.

one thing to say about the presentation of the soup was that it came in a heineken beer glass and we were given a huge spoon of which will never fit the bottom part of the glass. this mean that you had to drink the soup like downing beer. interesting experience though one must not down the soup when it was being served.

3rd course - main

Veal tenderloin, spanish tortilla, sauteed baby leek and shitake red chili jus de veau.

can you spot the shitake mushroom??

the veal sure was tender and nicely done. love the fact that you don't have to chew too hard and goes gentle with your jaws. it's juicy because the sides of the meat was nicely seared till slightly crisp. like the spanish tortilla though it kinda tasted like potato gratin. the top of the tortilla was awfully crispy and the lower layer were soft and creamy. very comfort food. as for the leek and misley number of shitake mushroom, they are forgettable. the sauce didnt impress and i thought it was plain salty.

4th course - dessert

Banana/Passion fruit millefeuille, vanila thick cream and mint leaves

i'm forgiveable to think that the mints leaves were for decor purposes. no?

i'm a fan of passion fruit sauce or ice cream whatever it is. the sweet, fragrant smell of the fruit just gives me happy thoughts. banana and passion fruit goes well together so one can never go wrong with the combi. i didn't like the millefeuille coz it was too hollow and difficult to eat with the banana and the sauces. the fact that the utensil provided was a long teaspoon didn't help much.

dessert was simple yet too complicated as again it came with too many varieties. the mint leaves were scattered as a decor for i was unable to eat the whole dessert without dismantling them to eat it individually. i resorted to using my fingers to meddle with the food in the end.

food was served on a small bedside table which will never be able to accomodate the size of the dishes so you have to eat with caution. service was impecable as they acceded to several of our requests like changing the 2 complimentary champagne to a glass of red and white wine. the waitress even got me the menu when i asked for it (after the meal of course). However, the place seems to be a hangout for AMs, so we were pretty out of place being the only two other asians having the dinner. we were treated to a performance which is so not out of this world. just a woman acting like a siao za bor. oh and the toilet's sucky too. dark, unisex and pretty dirty.

for 65++, i really expected more. not sure if the week's menu is out to tease the tastebuds of the patrons? coz if that's the case, the chef sure met his goal for the week. Unfortunately, i wasn't impressed. from the whole meal, the only thing that i want to try again would be the sundried tomato and nothing else. for dessert, i'd go eat exotique anytime @ canele. in fact, the only thing that is lingering on my mind right now is to go raffles creamery for their pina colada ice cream which we didn't get to try!!!! Grrrr...

Anyway, go only if want to be surprised and can find people who don't mind being surprised for a price. i was lucky :D!
